Ruben Robles

My name is Ruben Robles; I served in the United States Army Signal Corp from 2009-2012. I was a 25Q- Multichannel Systems Operator and Maintainer. In 2012, I was honorably discharged from active duty with a condition, not a disability, as an E-4 Specialist. My separation/transition from service was not easy. I struggled with physical and mental issues ranging from gastrointestinal to severe anxiety and depression. I felt weak, broken, and lost, to say the least. It felt like no one outside the military understood what I was going through. After years of taking my anger and issues out on my loved ones, I sought help and treatment from the VA. While that helped me recognize my problems, it didn't fix the root of my issues. I felt lost and alone, and I had no one outside my spouse to talk to about what I experienced while serving. I needed to find something to help me navigate life after the uniform came off.

During Spring 2022, I observed Jay Glazer announce and promote his book release for "Unbreakable" on the Pat McAfee Show. A few months later, in September of that year, Nate Boyer came on the same sportscast to announce the MVP movie's release and explain how MVP started and what it was all about. After the interview, I signed up online and got an email announcing MVP's eighth chapter opening in Phoenix in October. I attended my first session that month and my life has been forever changed for the better.

Through MVP, I found a community of like-minded individuals who understand veterans' unique struggles when reintegrating into society. The organization's commitment to merging the worlds of veterans and former professional athletes created an environment where I felt understood and supported. The camaraderie and sense of belonging I found within MVP have been invaluable in rebuilding my life. Not only did MVP assist me in my own journey, but they also provided numerous opportunities for me to give back to the community. Volunteering alongside fellow veterans and athletes has been a transformative experience. Together we have made a tangible impact, not only in my life but in the lives of others.

I am forever grateful to MVP for its unwavering commitment to veterans and former athletes. They have truly changed my life, helping me go from a place of uncertainty to one filled with hope and a renewed sense of purpose. Thank you, MVP, for being the support system I needed during this critical phase of my life.
