Jamal Ali

Marine Veteran

My name is Jamal Ali; I’m from Vicksburg, Mississippi, and am an MVP member. My wife Jill Ali and I have been married for 22 years and have a daughter, Tatyana Ali. I currently am an Entrepreneur, Manager for Social Media Influencers, and a Volunteer.

While in college, I was on track to become an officer after graduation at Jackson State University. During that time, I was in the ROTC officer’s program. My father passed away senior year, and I opted to leave college early for entry as an enlisted in the United States Army. My first duty station was in South Korea with the 802nd Combat Engineer Battalion. Other assignments included: 187th Infantry Fort Campbell, Kentucky, 101st Air Assault Division Operation Desert Storm & Desert Shield, Saudi Arabia & Iraq, 75B Personnel Administration Specialist, SIDPERS Expert, and 73C Finance Management Specialist.

MVP has helped me in numerous ways; physically, it has allowed me to understand the mechanics of the workout routines, which has been a significant plus. It has also increased my energy levels to perform more physical activities outside of the program. My anxieties have become manageable as I interact with more relatable veterans and players. Stress levels have become more contained by understanding trigger topics and points. Releasing my journey on MVP zoom sessions with over 90 members present has created new desires of courage, with my confidence levels increasing immensely. I am more focused and concerned about my life and family life for the future than ever.

It took some time for me to take in and process other veterans’ journeys, but along the way, I noticed how situations were dealt with and decided to use those tools to better myself. Mental and physical health goes hand in hand for a successful life. Before coming to MVP, I was going through days with no expectation for life. I had given up what I had worked so hard to achieve. The Huddle allowed me to realize that many others had gone or are going through the same journey. Knowing that so many others have created a mental safety net gave me the courage to begin my journey.

I look forward to our weekly MVP sessions. I want to gain more weight and maintain a healthy physical appearance. The Huddle always provides a mental health safety net, and members share tips on dealing with struggles. We have each other’s back. We are committed to each other, and respect for the brotherhood is paramount to all MVP members.

Meeting new veterans and learning new experiences is mentally rewarding. I’ve experienced growth with MVP and their partner Big Heart Ranch with rescue animals. They were my first experiences along with Higher Grounds Surfing program that connected me to the veteran community. I definitely recommend MVP to other combat veterans. I have brought in 3 new active members within my first six months and some of my best friends who are also part of the team. In Denver, CO, I have an opportunity to bring in many more combat war veterans.
