Josh Wheeldon
My name is Josh Wheeldon; I grew up in Kelso, Washington. I served in the US Army from 2004 - 2009 - Korea 2005-2006 with 557 Military Police Company, 2006-2009 with 170th Military Police Company Fort Lewis, WA and (JBLM) Al Anbar Province Iraq 07-08 (15 Months) 2011-12 Civ. Contract CRAM Operator FOB JOYCE Kunar, Afghanistan - and I come from a long line of Veterans. My great grandfather, grandfather, father, uncles, and cousins all served as well.
Upon separating from the military, I made Puyallup, Washington, my home alongside my wife, Kate, and son Maverick. Currently, I work as a US ARMY Soldier Recovery Unit (WTB) JBLM, WA as a Transition Coordinator. I also volunteer with many organizations (VFW, TMF, Brotherhood United Motorcycle Association, and Coach Puyallup Jr Vikings Football).
I have been out of the military for some time, and I see how MVP can help Veterans transition upon separating from the military. This organization has allowed me to meet new Veterans and allowed me to work out as a member of a team. It can be tough at times to work out alone due to a lack of external motivation. The weekly sessions have given me an outlet to let some stuff out in a safe environment; typically, I am not comfortable telling close friends and family the issues I have from serving in the military.
The weekly sessions are an excellent way to maintain accountability and get in a good workout. What I look forward to the most is catching up with other members! MVP has been a resource added to my toolbox of organizations, and I have connected people to this program throughout the country. One of the many great things about this community is that it helps you realize that everyone has "things" going on. I do recommend MVP to other combat veterans and former professional athletes.
